W internetowym zalewie słabej jakości treści (co niedawno zyskało nawet swoją nazwę - Cory Doctorow określił to zjawisko terminem "gównowacenie" ang. enshitification), nie jest łatwo znaleźć wartościowe materiały. Dlatego z radością polecamy "In The Mountain Retreat", stronę zawierającą komentarze Kodo Sawaki Roshiego do słów Daichi Zenji (1290–1366) i Dogena Zenji (1200-1253). Na zachętę słowa Sawaki Roshiego ilustrujące jak bardzo cenił on teksty obu tych Mistrzów:
Back when I was living at Mount Mannichi, I used to go to Tokyo from time to time. I distributed works such as the Dōgen’s Private Edition of ‘A Talk on Pursuing the Way’ with Commentary. At the time, each copy cost forty sen (400-800 yen today), but I made sure to give one to everyone who came to the zazen meetings, even if they only attended for a single night. There were times when I needed as many as 300 copies over five days. Apparently, there were even people who would take their copy and sell it to a used bookstore on the way home for seven sen (70-140 yen today), then use that money to buy a baseball bat.
There were times when my Verses of Daichi could be found in dozens of copies at the secondhand bookstore in front of Komazawa University. Well, I suppose it’s not so bad if people are selling them—I don’t mind. I spent my entire life pouring my pension and retirement funds into printing these kinds of works. In one sense, you could say my whole life was devoted to serving printers and booksellers, all in an effort to leave behind as many books of the ancient buddhas as possible, and to make them easily accessible to people.
